Denali Enright

May 29, 2000 (estimated) – December 9, 2016

We found Denali in December 2000, in Southern New Jersey. It was a freezing, cold day and she was gnawing on a frozen bagel in our back yard. She adopted us, we adopted her and she became a very happy house cat. Denali is named after Denali National Park, in Alaska. Denali means the “High One” in the native Athabasca language.

Denali moved with us to New Mexico in 2009, into a “cat friendly” house with lots of low window sills and seats for observing the outside activity. She loved the house and the abundance of warm sunshine in Las Cruces. Curling up with us in bed and sharing her warmth, made her, and us, extremely happy! Catching a lizard or a moth was a delicacy to our inquisitive little girl. We loved to see her happy face greet us at the door every time we returned home.

We truly enjoyed Denali’s company for 16 wonderful years. She was a very special kitty that we loved very dearly and we will always miss her friendship and love. We will never forget our little angel!    ~Lynn & Jim Enright

Maverick Caldwell

Jan. 1, 1997 (official birthday) – Dec. 15, 2016

Never say “a Tabby is just a cat”.  We met our Maverick when she was a half-grown stray in the Hill Country of Texas.  She adopted us after weeks of our kindness built her confidence in humans. She was a maverick: a gentle, little loner who never picked a fight, but loved all of the human attention we could give her. She grew into a 13-pounder, serious about her food bowl and about life. Through the years, she moved with us from Texas to New Mexico, loved being outdoors even though she had to have a leash, conquered Diabetes II and dealt with arthritis without complaint, and managed to win human friends everywhere with her sweet disposition.  Our hearts are broken, for she filled our lives with comfort and enjoyment –surely no cat could have loved being brushed more than our Maverick.  Always the sweetheart, she was never a complainer through her long life. She seemed to grow into becoming the oldest member of our household, herding us into the ktichen for meals, into the livingroom for laptime, and into bed when she was ready to sleep in her warm blankets.  Maverick Caldwell, you filled our hearts and house with joy for 20 years. There will never be another like you.  You were never “just a cat” to us.

Thank you so much, Dr. Kane, for providing the compassionate service that allowed us all to stay home, to give Maverick a comforting, peaceful farewell.  We believe there is a bit of a “maverick” in you.       ~Susan and Jim Caldwell

Mumfy Bear Brown

mumfy-collage2002 – 2016

Mumfy Bear’s unique coloring, chocolate brown, actually saved his life.  As a kitten, he was scheduled to be put down by Animal Control, but the Officer couldn’t bring himself to do it…he’d never seen a kitty that color.  So, he took him home for the night and turned him over to a no-kill shelter the next day.  We fell in love with this little brown bear and he became one of our family for 14 wonderful years.  He traveled the world with us, living in 6 states and 2 countries.  He entertained us with his personality and was very vocal about what he wanted!  He was a sweet, good boy who enjoyed treats until the very end.  He lived through calcium oxalate stones, the removal of most of his teeth, and hyperthyroidism, only to be taken quickly by cancer.  We are heartbroken by our loss and miss him terribly.  We will never forget our beloved Mumfy Bear.

Lucky Irizarry

LuckyApril 5, 1998 (Palm Sunday)
September 26,2014
Male, 16 1/2 years old
Family – Barbara and Edgar Irizarry

Lucky was a loyal friend and loved to cuddle. He spent much of his day outdoors, where he stocked birds, rodents and lizards… which on occasion he brought home as gifts. He lived all 9 of his lives and a few he may have borrowed in order to stay close to his human counterpart Barbara Irizarry, who he remained close to til the very end. A very verbal boy, he was quick to communicate how he felt about you… and tell you what he liked whether it was a long hunger meow or a happy purr when the loving was good. Lucky is missed daily and shall never be forgotten!                ~Submitted by Robin Irizarry on behalf of her godmother, Barbara Irizarry, November 2014

Sydney Tokar

To Sydney, Varmint-Getter Supreme:
“Syd” on the left, with his best bud, “Bob” (also now deceased, sigh).  We found Super Star Sydney as a straggly adolescent pup at a huge dog-frisbee event held annually in Jacksonville, FL.  The 4 month old red merle Aussie immediately stole my heart with his generous and passive nature.  He blossomed into a first-rate coyote and packrat getter when he, fellow dogs, horses, and humans, moved to New Mexico in 2005 (Whew).  Sydney was the kindest dog on earth, and loved by all people.  Quiet and gentle,…but Varmints Beware.  A true Australian Shepherd with a very loving disposition, yet staunch protector of his realm.  His name became “Diaper Dog” as he neared the end of his great life, as he had bouts with several physical problems.  But he never lost his passion for life.  Unfortunately, at 12 years of age, his body could not keep up with his tremendous spirit.  Thank you, Dr. Kane for responding promptly when it became time to say “Goodbye” to a great dog.       ~ Randi Tokar, October 2014

Patches Tapia

Patches-2b-w-borders,-shifted

Patches was born on May 24, 2001, six weeks later I adopted her along with 2 of her 8 littermates.  Patches had a strong spirit and was often referred to as “The Queen” by my family.  Patches was diagnosed with feline diabetes in August 2012. After this she really became the center of my home, with everything revolving around Patches schedule of exact meal times, ear-sticks to check her glucose and insulin injections.  I even switched to sugar-free ice cream because just the sound of the freezer door brought her running to share a bowl.  I often said that all that sugar in her blood made her sweeter because she had never been a very affection cat before but she became a real cuddle-bug after she became ill. I didn’t mind a bit! I had thirteen wonderful years with her and will always miss my ‘sugarbaby’.                                                                                                    ~ Dorian Tapia, October 2014
